    Excellent idea .. in Norway the bus stands themselves show the time to the next bus approaching (though I think they tend to have only one bus service per bus stand).. GSM, Bluetooth/RFID proximity and some sort of "registration" service.

    Maybe a gps tracker in every bus with its own bus designation ie use your mobil to connect with your bus. Ambulance vehicles all have a gps locator fitted to them via their two way radio. The ambulance control knows exactly where the ambulance is at all times. This technology should be a simple app for I phones ect.

    Technology is already here. Many cities of the world have it in place and operating. Many cities provide opened data streams. Have a look at http://tinyurl.com/yfrss5d - map of Darwin.
    It is NSW government that lags behind. Here at Sydney we do not even have data for Google transit, let alone real time data. Ah! Don't get me started... :(
